The Acme Thread is a strong, trapezoidal thread form used for leadscrews in vises, lathes, and other power/precision applications worldwide. It was named the Acme thread in 1895. Research doesn’t uncover exactly why, except that the name "Acme" became popular for many businesses and products in that era.
